Ever want to know what’s in season before you head to the market? This time of year, expect to see many of these in the Northeast.
Vegetables: zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, sweet corn, greens, broccoli, cabbage, peppers, cauliflower, fennel, kohlrabi, turnips, carrots, onions, garlic, eggplant, beans (green and fresh), potatoes, cucumber, tomatillos, and many herbs!
Fruit: peaches, plums, summer apples, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, black currants, melons of all types, nectarines, blueberries, and apricots

August 2, 2011 Tip: Cooking Ahead
Preparing a few items to eat for snacks, breakfast or lunch for the upcoming week is a great way to help ensure you eat a healthy diet. Even just slicing carrots and washing plums can make a difference during a busy week. Packing up healthy food beforehand switches your default from the vending machine or pizza shop to healthy foods focusing on whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
What’s on my plate for this week?
- Hardboiled eggs (breakfast and/or snacks)
- Blanched green beans (snacks and/or lunch)
- Carrot sticks (snacks and/or lunch)
- Multigrain Pilaf with Lentils (lunches)
- Yellow plums
